August 12th – Saturday – ALS COMMUNITY ANNUAL YARD SALE – 244 Akiohala Street, Kailua

Only 20 days til our community support group yard sale on August 12, Saturday, at the usual place: my house, 244 Akiohala Street, Kailua.  we normally average $900 a sale – not much but enough to keep our “petty cash” bank going for our families.  Basically, we use our money for expenses for our annual Christmas party and “Lei of Remembrance” Memorial, flowers for patients/caregivers that need visiting, our community donation to bereaved families, and sundry expenses.  Donations are in the form of cash or goods for sale.  This fund is not tax-deductible but when donating a large amount of goods for sale, we usually ask for multiple receipts from the donor thrift shop that receives our leftovers. These receipts will go to those who donated.
All these years, Nancy Fujino, Penny Chun, and I are responsible for keeping our fund replenished by organizing this event and making sure our expenses are discussed and decided upon with much thought and fairness.
Here are our needs:
1. DONATIONS:  Normally, donated goods are received ONLY the day before: Friday, August 11, from 8am onwards.  This is specially important now since I have reconfigured my converted garage into living quarters for my enlarged household.  So please hold on to your donations til the Friday before.🙏  
  We are not picky; will take anything that is gently used and working!🤑 The most sought are tools, collectibles, clothes, children’s toys, kitchenware. However, we CANNOT accept children’s car seats and equipment such as cribs, strollers, car seats because sincere cannot guarantee safety of their use,  we’d rather not try to sell. 😬

2. VOLUNTEER HELP:  For various needs:
a. Making new signs: Our signs look battered and need sprucing/replacing.  I will schedule work on this for sometime first week of August!! let me know if you can help. It’ll probably be in my house, or MDA office, after hours.
b.  Helping Uncle Dan Chargualaf to set up the big tent. Uncle Dan schedules this after work hours. I will contact him today and let you know when this will be.
c.  Friday, August 11, 8 am onwards (anytime).  To receive goods, sort, display, and price. 
d. Saturday: (Wo)manning the sale, in shifts. The veteran salespeople among us will be here all day from 7 to end. Duties include opening the sale area, helping out during the sale, packing up at 2pm for the thrift shop, and taking down everything (tents, etc.)
   a. Help with snacks, drinks, ice.- for the volunteers, both days (Friday and Saturday). The summer sun is hot outside even with the tents. Need reenergizing!
