Our Board of Directors
President and Treasurer
Born in San Francisco and raised in Kaaawa, Hawaii, Natalie Fonda graduated from the University of Hawaii (class of 2010) with a Bachelors degree in Business. She has also been an active real estate broker in the State of Hawaii since the age of 18.
Natalie’s mother-in-law, Violet Jones-Medusky, was diagnosed with ALS in May 2004 and lived with the disease for 7 years, passing away in March 2011. Vi was her biggest inspiration and helped her find her purpose. Vi’s motto was “Love from the Heart.” Natalie was one of her primary caregivers, committed to giving Vi the best possible quality of life while she lived with ALS. She also actively helped Vi with a daily blog: Violet’s Web, and raising awareness as well as funds for ALS organizations. She continues to be committed to helping those affected by ALS in Hawaii.
Vice President and Secretary
In 1973, Jan Medusky came to Hawaii as a Lieutenant in the United States Army after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Upon leaving the military in 1978, he began a 35-year career involved with commercial real estate consulting and appraising. In May 2004, a week before his tenth wedding anniversary, his wife, Violet Jones-Medusky was diagnosed with ALS. Vi was well known in Hawaii’s running/triathlete community having completed three Ironman triathlons as well as numerous other races. Throughout her life with ALS, Vi was very active in Hawaii’s ALS community putting together numerous fundraising and ALS awareness programs. Upon her passing due to ALS- related circumstances in March 2011, funds from her estate were used to found ALS Ohana of Hawaii, as she had requested.
Currently, Jan, along with other family members, is actively involved in the drive to provide better care and support for those with ALS and their families. In addition to being a board member of ALS Ohana, Jan is also a board member of the ALS Association Golden West Chapter, which is based in California and includes Los Angeles, San Francisco and other areas of California. It is hoped that such joint board membership will help ALS Ohana of Hawaii to benefit from its association with a seasoned ALS nonprofit organization that is expanding its sphere of influence to Hawaii.
